This month, the U. S. court will decide whether to allow a generic drugmaker to pay out-of-court settlements related to the sale of Valtrex, a diabetes drug used to treat high blood pressure and bladder cancer.
A generic drug maker will have the option of paying out-of-court settlements of about $2 billion to resolve a class-action lawsuit brought by plaintiffs in federal District Court in Philadelphia. The settlement amount will include $2.8 billion in upfront payments, a payment that would be paid by plaintiffs if the generic drugmaker has no prior recourse. The settlement amount will also cover the cost of testing and diagnostics, including a lab test and blood work.
In an interview with Business Insider, Teva Pharmaceuticals said it was not aware of any potential litigation in the U. that would result from such a payment. In an email to Business Insider, Teva Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Global Markets John Chiesa told Business Insider that the company had no knowledge of any litigation in the U.
